Washington Redskins

The Washington Redskins were initiated as such in 1937 and were triumphant over the New York Giants their first time out on the field. The game was played at Griffith Stadium with Riley Smith making the final 60-yard run to win the game for the Redskins. Their first year as the Washington Redskins saw their first championship game. However, their second year was not as successful as the first but they did well placing second to the New York Giants.

Over the years, the Washington Redskins have won 5 league championships, 12 Division championships, 5 conference championships, and 3 Super Bowl Championships. Home games are played in Landover Maryland at the FedExField and the team trains in Ashburn, Virginia, at Redskin Park. This professional football team is a member of the NFL and is the second most valuable franchise in the NFL. The Dallas Cowboys is the team that has surpassed the Redskins in recent years in franchise value.

Joe Gibbs was last years head coach for Redskins team. He was head coach for the team from 1981-1992 and then again from 2004 through 2007. The new head coach for the team in 2008 will be Jim Zorn. He has been the quarterback coach for Seattle Seahawks for the past 10 years and had hoped he would someday work up to head coach there. Taking on the position of head coach for the Redskins is a huge promotion for Zorn but he doesn’t lose sight of the fact that the teams owners are on their fifth head coach since 1999. His coaching techniques are sometimes considered unorthodox but they have worked in the past. He realizes being head coach isn’t going to be easy but feels he is prepared to hit the task head on.
