Washington Wizards Basketball
The Washington Wizards of the National Basketball Association are a team that is full of potential. Although the team has not won an NBA championship since 1978 when Wes Unseld was the anchor, they have managed to finish near the top of the ranks consistently over the last several years. The team last year finished with a 43-39 won-loss record.
For the upcoming season, guided by coach Eddie Jordan and with the core players remaining, the Washington Wizards have what it takes to post another winning season. Gilbert Arenas has been the face of the franchise. Although there was speculation that he might be looking to play elsewhere, owner Abe Pollin squashed the notion by signing him to a six year, 111 million dollar contract this off season. Gilbert Arenas was injured most of last season, missing 66 of the 82 regular seasons. Despite missing a key player, the Wizards managed to win 43 games mainly from the strong play and leadership of Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison. Players Antonio Daniels, Brenden Haywood, Deshawn Stevenson should be strong support players. Add to them youngsters Andray Blatche and Dominic McGuire, the Wizards should finish high.
The Wizards drafted JaVale McGee with their 18th pick in the NBA draft. With his athleticism and length, the 7 foot 237 pound center should be a terrific addition to the team. He played in the Summer League and averaged 8 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.6 blocks. He is not projected to be an immediate impact player but he has shown that he has tremendous upside potential. JaVale is the one to watch out for over the next two years.
