The Washington Wizards and Gilbert Arenas

The Washington Wizards are a professional basketball team based in Washington, D.C. Throughout the years this franchise has undergone a series of name changes ranging from the Chicago Packers to the Zephyrs to the Baltimore Bullets and then finally the Wizards.

One hot ticket player for the Washington Wizards is Gilbert Arenas. Gilbert Jay Arenas Jr. was born on January 6, 1982, in Tampa, Florida. Gilbert entered the 2001 NBA Draft out of the University of Arizona, where he was drafted by the Golden State Warriors in the second pick in the second round. He was passed by teams in the first round because he lacked the size needed as a shooting guard and the awareness and ball handling skills of a point guard. In 2003, during his second year in the league, Arenas received the NBA Most Improved Player Award and was named Most Valuable Player of the Rookie-Sophomore game during the NBA All-Star Weekend.

Arenas holds the Washington Wizards record for the most three-point field goals made as well as the record for most points in a game. The most interesting thing about Arenas is that at the end of each game, regardless of the outcome, he takes off his jersey and tosses it to the crowd.

When a person hears the name Gilbert Arenas, the thing to remember is is that he was not the number one draft choice when he first appeared on the NBA scene, but through hard work, determination and dedication to the sport he loves, he has become one of the Washington Wizards top players.
