The Washington Capitals

The Capitals are in the southeast division of the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League. They joined the league in 1974, and like almost every other expansion team, they didn't win many games. They had the worst record in the league at 8-67-5, and only scored 21 points. With time, the team has greatly improved from their poor first season. However, they have still not yet won the Stanley Cup.

The 2007-2008 season began on October 5. The Capitals came out strong and proved that they were a team that would be in the running for a championship. They finished the season with a 43-31-8 season that was first in the Southeast Division, and had a home record of 23-15-3. They became the first team in NHL history to make the playoffs after being ranked 14th or lower in the standings at mid-season. In the playoffs, they won the first game against the Philadelphia Flyers, but were eliminated after losing the next three.

Peter Bondra was drafted in 1990 as the 156th pick overall. He had a nice career with the Capitals, holding the team records for the most goals, points, power play goals, game winning goals, and hat tricks. He led them to the Stanley Cup Finals in 1997, but the Capitals lost to the Detroit Red Wings in 4 games.

The Washington Capitals continue to be a contender every season and hope one day to win the Stanley Cup. They play hard and feel that they can win every game.
