Opening in March of 2008, Nationals’ Park was classified the first major baseball stadium to become a “certified” Green Building in the United States. However, that is just one of the finer points of this stadium with cutting-edge technology and design.
Nationals’ Park has a 41,000 plus seating capacity and is located on the southeast side of Washington, DC. With the nation’s capitol only one mile north, and the riverfront and Navy Yard both just a couple blocks away, the stadium ends up a true focal point of a bustling revitalization. The outside structure of this fabulous stadium features innovative designs of steel, glass, and pre-cast concrete which coincides with the existing architecture in downtown DC area. Throughout the time an individual is at Nationals’ Park, they will be able to enjoy the surrounding vistas of the capitol building, Washington Monument, and the riverfront, which is also under major revitalization.
Because the stadium is built 24 feet below street level, about one half of the entire crowd will never have to climb a stair or ride an escalator to get to their seats! The playing field turf is made up of three types of Kentucky Bluegrass, and a specially designed drainage system has been installed to keep the grass moist, even when the weather is extremely dry.
In order to capture the audience, the stadium features state-of-the-art audio and visual technology which includes a 4,500 square foot high-definition scoreboard. There will be fan interaction opportunities, as well as a variety of entertainment provided in order to give each fan the game experience of a lifetime!
