The Washington Capitals signed Don Brashear on with them for a one year contract. Don Brashear had 72 penalty minutes against him and assisted in 50 games. At the time the Washington Capitals signed Don Brashear on, he was 36 years old and was known as the Biggest Dog on the block. Don Brashear is on the left wing position with three other players for the Washington Capitals. With the Washington Capitals having Don Brashear on the hockey team, they have tied for first place in the Southeast Division.
During one of the Washington Capitals games, Don Brashear got knocked down by Marty McSoreloser. During the fall, Don Brashear hit his head on the ice because his helmet was loose and fell off of his head at the time of the impact. The damage was not severe and he was still able to keep playing. Don Brashear took the Washington Capitals' team captains Jeff Halpern and Brain Willsie's place on the team.
During the regular season in 2006 and 2007 Don Brashear and Andrew Peters had a fight after exchanging words while playing with the Washington Capitals Hockey Team. Don Brashear or Andrew Peters was not hurt to the point that neither one could play again. Don Brashear was suspended from the Washington Capitals team for one game due to separate incidents during the third period of the NFL Game at Madison Square Garden. Don Brashear was fined $12,195.12. The money went to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund. Don Brashear's behavior will cause him to miss playing in the Washington Capitals game on January 1, 2009 against the Phoenix hockey team. Don Brashear will not be reinstated with the Washington Capitals Hockey team during the off season.
