Gilbert Arenas was born on January 6, 1982 in Tampa, Florida. He is a NBA basketball player for the Washington Wizards. While Gilbert was in high school many people felt that he did not have what it would take to be a college player. Gilbert proved these people did not know what they were talking about. When Gilbert became a member on the University of Arizona basketball team, he decided to wear the jersey with a zero on it because of what they told him in high school.
Now he has made it as a NBA basketball player and gives back to his community by giving money to schools. He gives one school 100 dollars for each point that he makes in a game. He is also known to have tossed his jersey into the crowd after each game. This can be an expensive habit, so Gilbert could not do it in the beginning, so instead of throwing his jersey into the crowd he threw his shoes. Many athletes in the world today donate their money or their time to make money. This causes many people to look up to the athletes because he or she is helping out people in his community so they can have a better life.
Gilbert likes to inform his fans about what is going on in his life so he writes a weekly blog that is posted on NBA.com. Being an athlete takes patience and stamina to keep going and playing at the level that an NBA player must play at to be effective on the team.
