Washington Nationals

The Washington Nationals are a professional baseball team based in Washington, D.C., and are remembered by many as the Montreal Expos. After playing as the Montreal Expos from 1969-2004, the team was moved to Washington, D.C. following the 2004 season and renamed the Washington Nationals. They are hoping to one day rise to the top of MLB, something they were never able to do as the Expos.

As the Montreal Expos, the team endured many disappointing seasons. The strike year of 1994 was their most successful season, as the season ended with them owning the best record in baseball. The years following were once again disappointing, as the team struggled to compete and MLB was in discussion of doing away with the franchise. After being bought by MLB in 2002, the team was moved to Washington, D.C. despite some opposition, and renamed the Nationals. The team has not been successful in their attempt to rise to the top of MLB, as they have failed to make the playoffs since becoming the Nationals.

The Nationals are one of four franchises currently playing in MLB that has failed to win a championship. They are again struggling this season, as their hopes of reaching the playoffs seem very unlikely. Many still wonder what could have been if not for the strike shortened season of 1994, as that still remains the best season in franchise history. The are hoping that they can one day reach that level again, and finally bring home their first world title.
