The Washington Nationals is a professional baseball team that originated in Montreal, Quebec in 1969. The team was known as Montreal Expos and was the first league team in Canada. The team home is now in Washington, D.C. The park just opened this year, and is located in Southeast D.C. around the Anacostia River, to view the capital.
The Nationals name was formed from two former Washington baseball teams with the nickname of “the Nats," and old name use by the D.C. teams of Washington Senators. The day of September 29, 2004 was when the Expos announced the official move of Washington Nationals. The vote was 28-1. There was a legal move that the arbitrators had come in to stop the team from going back to Montreal. The team of Angelos and Major League Baseball(MLB) made a deal to help protect the Orioles against a financial crisis. The Orioles will handle the television and the radio rights for the Washington Nationals.
The baseball ballpark for the Nationals was controversial. About two-thirds of Washington District opposed Mayor Anthony Williams for the plans of the stadium. The simple fact is the city would be financing a $581 million without the county or state support. The council passed and amended the plan on December 21, 2004 that would have help from the city to finance of the stadium. The bankers requested a guarantee of $24 million for United States. The city made a recommendation that the Major League Baseball be responsible, but they were not willing to do so. The city would cap $611 million and the Major League Baseball would agree to $20 million.
