The Washington Redskins has been a benchmark franchise of the National Football League. They have had great years and some not so great years. They have appeared in five super bowls, winning three. Last year, the Redskins finished with a record of 9 wins, 7 losses. They made the playoffs, only to lose badly to the Seattle Seahawks 14-35.
The Redskins are looking to turn things around this year starting with new coach, Jim Zorn, who was the quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks for several years. He hopes to restore the glory days of the Washington Redskins. The team drafted good talent, some of whom played in the Hall of Fame Game on Saturday. The Redskins defeated the Indianapolis Colts by a score of 30-16. The Rookies were contributors to the win giving Zorn some reasons to get excited. Colt Brennan played quarterback in the second half completing 9 of 10 passes for 123 yards and 2 touchdowns. Fred Davis, tight end, caught 3 passes for 23 yards. More importantly, his one on one blocking was good. Chris Horton, safety, was all over the field and had 5 tackles, including a sack on the quarterback. Rob Jackson, defensive end, J.T. Tryon, cornerback and Chad Rinehart, offensive lineman all turned in fine performances, giving the coach a glimpse of what is to come.
The Redskins biggest off season acquisition was defensive end Jason Taylor. Known for brutalizing quarterbacks, the Redskins hope he can continue to keep that reputation. The Redskins play in the always tough NFC East with the Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants and the Philadelphia Eagles. With the moves they have made and the return of some key veterans, the Redskins should have their "Hogs" squealing with delight.
