Jim Zorn, Washington Redskins Coach

Last February, a surprised young Jim Zorn was offered a head coaching position with the Washington Redskins. He had been hired originally as offensive coordinator. With experience in professional football dating back to 1976, his expertise offered the Washington Redskins a fresh approach on the field.

Jim Zorn played quarterback with four different teams. In 1976, he was signed by the Seattle Seahawks and played eight years for them. He then played for the Green Bay Packers, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. During his career as a player, he threw for 21,115 yards and 111 touchdown completions. In addition, he ran for 17 touchdowns. He was given the Most Valuable Player award in 1976 as well as Rookie of the Year. He had no fumbles in his entire playing career.

In 1987, his career in coaching began with Boise State University, where he coached for three years. Two other colleges, Utah State University and the University of Minnesota, followed. In 1997, the Seattle Seahawks selected him to be one of their coaches, but he only stayed for one year before leaving to go to the Detroit Lions.  But Seattle was his love and he found himself back on their coaching staff until 2007. In his new position with Washington, he stresses a new "offensive game with a rapid, quick-fire passing attack as well as rushing and new blocking schemes". Jason Campbell, the team's quarterback, thinks Zorn was a "great pick" due to the fact that he knows how quarterbacks work and wants to play to win.

Jim Zorn won his first preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts. All indications point to a successful and a very productive coach, but time will tell.
