Sean Michael Maurice Taylor was born on April 1, 1983 in Miami, Florida to Pedro Taylor and Donna Junior. He played football at Miami Killian High School and Gulliver Preparatory School. He then went on to play college football at the University of Miami. He thrived on the football field and was awarded many honors. He entered the NFL draft during his junior year of college and was a first round pick. In April of 2004, he was drafted to the Washington Redskins, where he would only play for three years.
On November 27, 2008 Sean Taylor was pronounced dead at a hospital in Florida. His death came as a result of a burglary at his Palmetto Bay, Florida home. Apparently, four armed men broke into his home (a fifth person is suspected) while he was resting. He heard a noise and went to investigate, and when they saw him, one of the men shot him in his thigh and critically wounded his femoral artery. The cops found the men on December 1, 2007 and they were all charged with second-degree murder, armed burglary, and trespassing with a firearm.
His death came as a hard tragedy to the Redskins and the rest of the sports world. The NFL recognized his death by putting a decal with the number 21 on the back of the NFL player's helmets for that week, as well as a moment of silence during the opening of those games. The Redskins had the number 21 painted on the field and the Redskins Hall of Fame. The sports world had truly lost a player with great promise and a bright future.
