Jim Zorn: Can The Spirit Of '76 Lead the Redskins To Victory?

The year 1976, a charismatic rookie on an expansion teams' inaugural year, now finds himself in his inaugural season as a first time head coach of a team still reeling from the untimely death of one of its young up and coming stars.  Zorn replaces a legend, Hall of Fame coach Joe Gibbsas, ushering in a new era.

Jim Zorn is no stranger to the NFL.  In his rookie year, Zorn found himself the starting quarterback of the expansion team the Seattle Seahawks.  Zorn started all 14 games that season.  Jim Zorn is one of only 3 quarterbacks in NFL history to pass for 10,000 years and more in their first 4 seasons.  His favorite target is Steve Largent, of course.  Zorn's NFL career ended in 1987.  Throughout his NFL career, Zorn passed for 21,115 yards and 111 touchdowns.

Once his professional playing career was over, he became a coach on the collegiate level.  Zorn coached in the collegiate level from 1988 until 1996.  In 1997, Zorn returned to the Seattle Seahawks as an offensive assistant.  From 1998 until 2000, Zorn served as the Detroit Lions' quarterback coach.  In 2001, he returned to the Seahawks as their quarterback coach and remained there through the 2007 season.

In January 2008, Zorn was hired as the Washington Redskins' new offensive coordinator.  On February 10, 2008 Jim Zorn was named the Redskins' new head coach.  Zorn makes his professional coaching debut at the Hall of Fame Game against the Indianapolis Colts.  This preseason is not only a test for players to see who will make the team or who will be cut, but an issue of respect for a first year coach.
