Sean Taylor was shot in his Miami home on November 26, 2007. He passed away the next day. His death was a hard blow to the Washington Redskins. Sean Taylor was their safety, but had missed the last two games before his death due to a knee sprain. Taylor stayed home from the game where the Redskins played the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His replacement was Reed Doughty. Reed remembers Taylor giving him words of encouragement prior to the game before Taylor was killed.
The Redskins mourned the death of teammate Sean Taylor. In memory of him, they painted his number, 21, in his parking space. They also posted a sign that read, “Sean Taylor 21 – Defensive Player of the Week- Washington Redskins 20, Philadelphia Eagles 12 – September 17, 2007.” They also painted his name and number in the grass parking area on the driveway leading to the complex. They remember him as a changed man after the birth of his child. They are healing one day at a time.
During the offseason, the Redskins have had the ups and downs that all NFL teams have when getting ready for the season and going through training camp. They are excited about their promising rookies Devin Thomas, Fred Davis, Malcolm Kelly, and Colt Brennan. Along with new players, the Redskins are starting the season with a new head coach, Jim Zorn. Coach Zorn has been coaching the Seattle Seahawks and tutoring quarterback Matt Hasselback. With the loss of Sean Taylor and the addition of new players and a new coach, the Washington Redskins are just taking it one day at a time.
