Don Brashear

The enforcer, as he is known by teammates, Don Brashear, is an intimidating 6 foot 3 inch, 240 pound hockey player for the Washington Capitols.  He has entered his second contract year with the team and serves as one of the teams’ alternate captains as well as his left wing playing position.  He has played professionally since 1992, but mostly for Canadian teams including the Montreal Canadiens and Vancouver Canucks.  He also played for the Philadelphia Flyers for a few years before being signed to Washington.

His childhood was full of turmoil as he was moved from home to home before finally settling down with a foster family who introduced him to hockey and encouraged him to learn to skate.  His four brothers motivated him to work on his hockey skills and his skating ability until he was a competitive hockey player.  During these early seasons, he began to learn the skill of body checking, which he currently uses to help lead penalty minutes on his team and in the league.

The Capitols 2008-2009 season starts in Atlanta against the Thrashers on October 10th.  The home opener in the Verizon Center on October 11th will be against the Chicago Blackhawks.  The team will have their Southeast Divisional Championship banner hung before the game starts.  During the upcoming season, each team within the NHL will play every team within the league at least once and also play non-conference opponents three times throughout the season.  The Capitols are scheduled to play Los Angeles, Columbus and Nashville.
