Former Redskins Player Goes Into The NFL Hall Of Fame

A Washington Redskins legend has made his way into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.  Runningback Darrell Green, the final pick of the first round in the 1983 draft, was recently honored with a bust at the museum in Canton, Ohio.  Green had used his speed to his advantage his entire life, from his tough childhood in the projects to his days at Texas A&I to his days as a part of the Redskins organization.

Green made a name for himself early in his football career. During his first appearance on "Monday Night Football," Green chased down Tony Dorsett which earned him instant household recognition.  Green was also not afraid to play through adversity and pain.  In fact, he tore the cartilage in his rib cage during a 52-yard punt return for a touchdown.  He never let go of the ball, even if he had to hold up his ribs at the same time.  They were the playoffs, after all.  He was the winner of the "NFL's Fastest Man" competition a total of four times.  Green was comfortable setting records and taking his playing to the next level.

Which is why Redskin fans aren't surprised that the small stature runningback is being inducted into the Hall of Fame the very first year that he was eligible. And they will be pleased to honor Green's accomplishments along with the rest of the country, for a stellar football career that should be remembered as one of the greats.
