Redskins Face Question Marks At Defense
There is no question about it: after every draft there are hundreds of analysts ready sit down and point out what wasn't done right for every team. When it comes to the Washington Redskins, the main criticism has been that the struggling defensive line wasn't properly addressed.
The fact that the Redskins struggled defensively during last season is certainly no secret and many people expected the team to come out and draft accordingly. But for a team that is clearly in rebuilding mode, with a brand new coach, defense seemed to be far from anyone's mind. Of course they did draft Rob Jackson, out of Kansas, but not until the seventh round. Experts predict that Jackson may see some playing time this season, but his influence on the Redskins defense will be minimal at best.
But although the draft didn't serve to bulk up the D-line for the Redskins this year, there may be some hope for the team after all. Consider that Andre Carter had 10.5 sacks and 4 forced fumbles last year, in a year when very little seemed to be going right for the team. Phillip Daniels also serves as a team leader and the Redskins seem to be banking on his abilities to carry the defense through the season. He is certainly a veteran player with plenty of experience. Redskin fans might be a little nervous about the number of years that he has under his belt, but even at 35 years old the organization is confident that he can still play football at an elite level. Only time will tell for sure.
