Nationals News

The Washington Nationals are having another dreadful season, going .392 with a 29-45 record, putting them dead last in the National League East. Their first month was highly demoralizing, as starting in their second game, they entered a nine game losing streak that didn't abate in a lasting way until the end of the month. May was haphazard, but a substantial improvement over April, going 13-15. It's unlikely at this point that the Nationals have any hope at getting into the playoffs, but it is theoretically possible.

This season is the first that the Nationals have played in their brand new stadium, Nationals Park. They'll be lucky if they manage to best their previous year's record of 73-89, which, while not ideal, was far from the abysmal lows that they have sunk to in recent months. June has included a three game, four game and two game losing streak. They have managed to win their last three games - tying their longest winning streak of the season. If they want to improve their record, they're going to have to keep that ratio going.

Even the brand new stadium with state of the art facilities have not been attracting many fans to see the team play. While the opening games saw attendance highs of near 45,000 people, most Nationals games these days are lucky if it breaks 30,000 people in attendance. It generally hovers around 25,000 people, but would probably start attracting more should the Nationals start to become a better team.
