Wizards Prepare for Draft

Now that their season has come to a close, the Washington Wizards are making preparations for what could prove to be a busy off-season.  While re-signing Gilbert Arenas and Antawn Jamison is atop the list of priorities, the upcoming draft on June 26th will also require plenty of attention, as the club attempts to find gold with its 18th and 48th picks.

Washington team president Ernie Grunfeld and assorted scouts will be descending upon the pre-Draft camp in Orlando to try and unearth a few gems.  Last year, the same camp only produced three first-rounders, but Grunfeld and crew will attend just the same to make sure no talent slips through the cracks.

And the Wizards were able to strike it rich at last year's camp, catching a glimpse of forward Dominic McGuire.  The club selected McGuire in the second round, and he went on to appear in 70 games as a rookie with the Wizards.  He was one of 17 players from the pre-draft camp to be chosen in the second round.

Grunfeld has yet to determine the team's top draft need.  It's tough to make too many plans when picking 18th, so the club will likely take the best player available.  Grunfeld also hasn't ruled out the possibility of trading the first-round pick, although he does believe it's a very deep draft, meaning a quality player should still be available at No. 18.  And if that's the case, the Wizards will be quite pleased to add another talented young player to their roster.
