2008 is turning out to be a big year for the Washington Nationals. After years in RFK Stadium, the team has constructed a new facility on South Capitol Street, and as of the season opener on March 30th calls the brand new Nationals Park its home. The new facility is a modern marvel, the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-certified "green stadium", and boasts a capacity of just under 42,000. The Nationals hope to keep it at capacity this season as they try to improve on last year's record.
Parking at the new site is at a premium, so fans are urged to commute in via the various public transport systems that serve the new park. The Metro's Navy Yard station is merely a block away, and several Metrobus lines service the area. In addition, on gamedays the team runs a shuttle service from the old RFK Stadium parking lot, and plans are underway to introduce a water taxi service from Virginia. No matter how you get there, the new stadium will welcome you into its state-of-the-art facility.
The new park is designed to create a number of seating "neighborhoods" in which the experience can differ greatly from one area to another. A variety of premium luxury suites are available, as well as Presidential and Diamond-level VIP seating. The open nature of the stadium allows panoramic views of the surrounding landscape from virtually anywhere in the park, and offers unparalleled sightlines onto the field. Nationals Park offers the most modern baseball experience a fan can have.
